A consortium comprising Water Transmission Company (WTCO) and ACWA has signed a tripartite technical services agreement with Fichtner, an international engineering and consulting group, in coordination with the Syrian Ministry of Energy, to conduct comprehensive studies of water resources and develop integrated desalination and water transmission solutions in Syria.

The agreement aims to prepare initial studies for the development of integrated water desalination and transmission projects in the Syrian Arab Republic, with a production and transmission capacity of up to 1.2 million cubic meters per day and a transmission network extending approximately 400 kilometers, contributing to enhanced water security and sustainable water supplies.

Eng. Abdullah Hajji, Chief Engineering & Projects Management Officer, stated that this step reflects the Company’s commitment to expanding strategic partnerships that contribute to addressing water challenges in the region. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with relevant authorities to leverage expertise and capabilities in developing a sustainable water ecosystem based on advanced technologies and international best practices to help meet Syria’s future water needs.

The scope of work includes assessing available water resources and future water demand, as well as identifying priority solutions for seawater desalination and associated water transmission networks, supporting long-term planning for Syria’s water sector.
